Saltwater vs. Freshwater Charter Fishing

Charter fishing is a potentially fun and exciting activity for both the novice fisherman or the more advanced one. However, deciding between saltwater and freshwater fishing is sometimes a difficult choice. Prior to choosing which opportunity to take advantage of, there are several differences between the two that every fisherman must know.
The similarities
Both freshwater and saltwater house fish that are diverse in size and species. The same types of bait are often used to catch different varieties of fish, regardless of the type of water in which they live. Rods and reels, along with nets are used to catch fish in both types of water. However, within these similarities lie the differences between the two types of water.
The differences
Saltwater fishing requires a larger reel, a sturdier boat with two engines and more safety gear. Additionally, saltwater fishing requires a different technique. The freshwater fisherman must cast his line close to the shore and stay in one area, while the saltwater fisherman tries to lure the fish to him by dragging the lures at the back of the boat.
Types of fish
With the exception of salmon and mullet, who migrate in order to spawn, it is seldom that a particular species of fish is found in both saltwater and freshwater. Types of saltwater fish include the tuna, ray, clownfish, blue marlin and red snapper, while fresh water fish include the catfish, rainbow trout, eel, pike and goldfish.
Knowing the differences between fishing in freshwater and saltwater helps novice fishermen decide which type of fishing can provide them with the most enjoyable experience. While they are similar overall, the differences are important to understand.
